Unique architecture of a thousand year old tower in Tay Ninh

The ancient tower, which was built around the 8th century, is one of the intact typical architecture of the Oc Eo culture in the South.

Located on the high mound of rice paddies in Binh Thanh commune (Trang Bang district, Tay Ninh province), Binh Thanh ancient tower was built in the 8th – 9th centuries. The tower is one of the rare typical ancient architecture of Oc Eo culture and it is almost intact.

Binh Thanh was discovered in 1886. The tower has square shaped foot of 5m width and 10m height; 4 sides face to right four directions East, West, South, North.

The main door is built saliently with 1m width and 2m height. Above the main door is a large, rectangular stone, decorated with chrysanthemum stylized. Three sides of the West – South – North have dummy doors decorated with sophisticated patterns.

Binh Thanh ancient tower is built of brick with the same technique as in the Cham towers in central Vietnam. The bricks are bonded together without any binder.
